In loving memory of my business partner John Patterson. He was a "partner" to me in
every sense of the word. He often joined me in many of the Tikkun Olam efforts I engaged in
here at Ahavas Sholom as well! - whether installing new front steps, replacing our crumbling
brick stairs; the water tight, stucco wall in the front of the social hall; nailing up lattice panels
in the early years so we could enjoy our "mini" sukkah just outside the basement door every
single year, before we graduated to our full size sukkah in the parking lot - ALL PRO BONO!
And, of course, the pinnacle of our Tikkun Olam efforts together at Ahavas Sholom, was
having Elegant Stucco & Stone, LLC - the stucco business we built together - underwrite the
cost of the Ahavas Sholom summer youth basketball league at Branchbrook Park, which we
sponsored for a number of years, consecutively - directly across from the Colonnade
Apartments - a hotbed for summer hoops!
This was born from our shared passion, having been teammates on the hardwood at Drew
University. As teammates, you learn an awful lot about people's "souls"! While not Jewish,
(Irish-German) he lived his life by a "Code of Honor" that always felt Torah driven to me!
I will strive to uphold his Code as I move forward in my life.
May John's memory be for a Blessing!!
