Richard Pollock
Volunteer Excellence Award

Richard Pollock is a first generation American.  His mother was born in Warsaw who came here with her parents.  In 1969 he came to DC to go to college and never left.

Richard has been volunteering with  Bikur Cholim of Greater Washington for five years. During that time, he was one of the managers of the pantry at Children’s National Hospital. He now stocks the kosher pantry at Sibley Hospital on a weekly basis.

While at Children’s Hospital, he often met directly with parents and with their children in the hospital. They were always heartbreaking experiences. But he was very happy to see the smiles on the faces of so many parents. He also enjoyed meeting parents in the BCGW Kosher Hospital pantry itself. It made him understand the vital importance of the pantry to Jewish families.

Through BCGW he also personally met and visited with several Jewish seniors in the DC area. They were always rewarding experiences.

In previous years, he helped with the gardening at the Bernard Creeger Bikur Cholim House.  He worked on planting new flowers and shrubs in the backyard and recently cleaned up the front garden.

Richard has been married for 22 years to Karen Holtzman and lives in DC.
