Ori Carmel grew up in Upstate New York and completed his accounting degree at Yeshiva University. He then spent seven years working for large accounting firms.  After marrying Naomi, a fellow Upstater, they lived briefly in Forest Hills, Queens and Stamford, Connecticut, followed by nine years in Baltimore, before moving to Kemp Mill in 2013. That same year, Ori joined ProShares, a Bethesda-based ETF company, where he currently serves as Vice President of Risk & Audit, which, as one might imagine, makes him an extremely popular person within the firm.
In his professional role, Ori focuses on risk management, internal audit, and governance, bringing an analytical lens that he also applies, sometimes more helpfully than expected, to communal finance and board work.

Although Naomi began the family’s involvement with Bikur Cholim by volunteering shortly after they moved to the area, Ori has tried to catch up by serving as Treasurer and a member of the board since 2019. They both strongly believe in Bikur Cholim’s mission and are proud of the extraordinary work done by its staff and volunteers, as well as the broad support it enjoys from the entire community.

Ori and Naomi are members of Young Israel Shomrai Emunah, where Ori serves as head of the Finance Committee, as well as Kemp Mill Synagogue and Kehillas Ohr Hatorah. Their two daughters, Sarit and Hadar, are currently in graduate school and college, respectively.
