Deborah (Debbie) Hershkowitz is the Woman of Achievement from Manetto Hill Jewish Center of Plainview. She is a retired Spanish teacher with 31 years of experience at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview and the recipient of the 2007 Educator of Distinction Award from the Coca-Cola Foundation for exemplary dedication to the field of education.
Debbie has been a trustee of her Sisterhood and has moved up to membership vice president. She introduced a Sisterhood High Tea Event last year that was well-received and is active in planning and setting up all activities. She is also a trustee of her synagogue and is involved in fundraising.
Her husband, Danny, encourages her to enjoy the friendships she has made through the temple and Sisterhood. Debbie and Danny have five children and eight grandchildren. The activities they enjoy most are those they share with their children and grandchildren, especially family vacations. In addition, Debbie is an avid reader and puzzler. Her involvement in Sisterhood and her synagogue has enriched her life.
