Beth Olanoff Blume
Woman of Achievement
Shelter Rock Jewish Center
Judaism has been central to Beth’s life since childhood, when she attended synagogue in Brooklyn with her parents and younger brother Abe. The values of giving back and helping others were instilled in her early on, inspired by her parents’ dedication to family, education, and charitable support of the Jewish community.

A graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn at just 16, Beth earned her BA in education from Queens College. She married Ted Blume, who became her beloved husband, and together they built a beautiful life centered around family and faith, raising their son, Joshua, and daughter, Marilyn, after moving to Roslyn in 1971. From the very beginning, Beth has been an active and devoted member of Shelter Rock Jewish Center. She created a Jewish home rooted in tradition — keeping kosher, hosting Shabbat dinners, and celebrating meaningful milestones, including Joshua’s bar mitzvah in Israel.

As education was always stressed in her family, Beth earned her first master’s degree in education in 1967, and later, her second master’s in blind and visually impaired education from Hunter (while teaching in Brooklyn during the day, taking night classes at Hunter, and raising her family).

Beth dedicated her early career to teaching visually impaired elementary school students and later enjoyed a successful five-decade career in real estate. Today, as a proud grandmother of two granddaughters and mother-in-law to Fred, Beth continues to devote countless hours to her Jewish community. She is a pillar of strength, generosity, and unwavering commitment — someone her community can always count on.
