Sandra Herman
Woman of Achievement
East Meadow Beth-El
Jewish Center
Sandra Herman, a native of Brooklyn, New York, is a graduate of Hunter College High School. She earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Music Education from Queens College. Sandy taught in the East Meadow School System for 31 years and also actively participated in the Nassau County Music Educators Association and the Long Island Music Festival Association.

Since 1972, Sandy and her husband, David, have called East Meadow home and raised three daughters there. Their lives have been deeply intertwined with the East Meadow Beth-El Jewish Center (EMBEJC), where their daughters attended Hebrew School and celebrated their Bat Mitzvahs. Today, Sandra and David are the proud grandparents of three granddaughters, and one grandson. A lifelong violist, Sandy currently performs with the Massapequa Philharmonic. One of her most profound music contributions was her participation in a Holocaust Remembrance Day program developed by her husband. A master luthier, David restored three Holocaust instruments from the Kushner family, also members of the same temple. Sandy joined Carol and Geri Kushner and Frank Verbsky to form a string quartet and performed on the historic instruments in a moving tribute.

At EMBEJC, Sandy has been dedicated to her involvement with Sisterhood. She has served on the Executive Board for many years, holding leadership roles including Vice President of Programming, Book Discussion Chair, and Hospitality Chair. Her dedication to learning and religious study is highlighted by her 40 years of participation in the bible study group with Rabbi Androphy. Through these years of service, she has cultivated many close friendships within the community. Sandra Herman is truly honored to be chosen by her Sisterhood as its Woman of Achievement.
