Sheila Hanover moved to Springfield with her husband Adam in 1994 and ever since, she has used her considerable talents, as well as her warmth and charm, to enhance the CIS community.

One of Sheila’s defining traits is her determination to put her skills to use as a volunteer, fulfilling each task with incomparable energy and care. For years she played a key role in our Shul’s Sisterhood, managing fundraisers like our annual Mishloach Manot campaign as well as our Rosh Hashanah greeting card program. As a current Co-President, she has been instrumental in overseeing a notable expansion of the influence and reach of Sisterhood.

During the height of the pandemic, virtual game nights and social events were established which brought everyone together, and “drive-through” gifts of honey, challah and cheesecake helped to unite our community during the Chagim. Under her leadership, Sisterhood social events have become more eagerly anticipated than ever. Special interest groups have been established, allowing women to spend time together enjoying shared passions. Members have also been introduced to novel activities, such as axe-throwing and mixology as well as those aimed at spiritual renewal.

Sheila’s creative and organizational skills enabled her to leave an indelible impression during her tenure as a member of the CIS Board of Trustees, and to organize our first annual golf outing and barbecue–annual events that continue to bring everyone together. Sheila’s delight in volunteering for Shul-wide endeavors that combine food and fun also led to her co-chair the CIS Purim Seudah for many years.

In addition to connecting new and longstanding members of our community, Sheila is also committed to connecting with Torah. She is a longtime participant of our Tehillim group, a regular attendee at weekly shiurim and a dedicated supporter of Rei’ach HaSadeh , the CIS Torah Journal. Sheila can be found at Shul every Shabbos morning in her makom kavuah, where she continues to welcome longtime friends and neighbors, while scanning the crowd for newly arrived singles, couples and families to host for a delectable Shabbat meal.

Sheila and Adam are the proud parents of Samantha, Jordana and her husband Eitan, and Noah.
