Daniella and Ben Hoffer
Rabbi Israel E. Turner Memorial Award Guests of Honor

Daniella and Ben Hoffer have been proud members of the Congregation Israel of Springfield (CIS) community since they moved to Springfield in 2007. Ben originally moved to Springfield from Bayonne, NJ as a child in 1989 with his parents Emmy and David Hoffer a”h and older brother Aaron. Emmy and David were pillars of the CIS community whose personal warmth and kindness became a hallmark for the CIS community as a whole. Daniella, born in Philadelphia, grew up in nearby Edison, NJ where she lived with her parents Debbi and Alex Diament and siblings, Leora, Eliana and David. Daniella was fortunate to be raised in a home where she observed her parents in leadership roles as members of the Congregation Ahavas Achim community.

For high school, Daniella attended Bruriah and Ben attended the JEC. They both graduated in 1999 and elected to take a gap year learning in Israel before coming back to the States for college. B’chasdei Hashem, Ben was blessed to be placed in the shiur of first year rebbe, Rabbi Chaim Marcus at Yeshiva Reishit Yerushalayim. At Reishit, Ben and Rabbi Marcus developed a very close relationship. It was there that Ben first heard Rabbi Marcus talk about his vision for a modern orthodox community in America built around constant growth in Avodas Hashem. Through siyata d’shmaya, at the conclusion of Ben’s shana bet at Reishit, Rabbi Marcus would find his way to CIS as the Assistant Rabbi/Youth Director where he hired Ben to be the NCSY Youth Advisor. After graduating YU, Ben spent another year in Israel where he and Josh Smilow served together as madrichim in Reishit.

In December of 2004, Daniella and Ben got married…and moved to Teaneck. However, even before moving to Springfield, Ben and Daniella worked to help raise awareness for the CIS community and attract new and young families. This was the beginning of Ben’s time serving on the CIS Membership Committee which he would ultimately chair. It was through the membership committee that Daniella and Ben worked relentlessly to promote the CIS community and expand its membership. Immense effort was put into OU community fairs, parlor meetings, shabbosim in other communities and the general marketing of CIS via any and all means available, including print, radio and online advertising.  B’chasdei Hashem, due to tremendous divine assistance and the hard work and partnership of so many people at CIS, most notably Rav Chaim and Lea Marcus, the CIS community has grown and developed beyond their initial dreams.

Following the example of their parents, grandparents and teachers, Daniella and Ben have never shied away from an opportunity to serve the community.  At CIS, Ben has been a member of the long-term planning committee, religious committee, development committee, finance committee, executive committee, worked with the youth committee and nursery committee and has served as vice-president, co-president and president of CIS. Ben currently serves as the co-chair of the expansion committee. Daniella has served on the membership committee which she would ultimately chair, the youth committee, the camp committee, the nursery committee and Sisterhood for which she ran programming for many years before serving as a Co-President. Daniella currently serves as the chair of the design committee for the new expansion/renovation. Beyond CIS, Daniella and Ben have served in a variety of leadership roles at Mikvah Yisroel of Springfield, the American Society for Yad Vashem, the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy / Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School, the Jewish Educational Center, The Orthodox Union, the Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest, the Jewish Federations of North America and the Jewish Agency for Israel. Professionally, Daniella is the CEO & Principal Designer at Daniella Hoffer Interiors and Ben is the General Counsel at Atlantic Realty Development Corp.

With immense gratitude to Hashem, their parents and grandparents, Daniella and Ben are the proud parents of four extraordinary daughters (Kira,19; Maytal,16; Tzofia,12 & Atara,10) who represent the fourth generation of the Hoffer family to be members of CIS. Through the guidance of their teachers, families and friends, Daniella and Ben endeavor to prioritize their personal relationship with Hashem and work to foster greater unity in the Jewish communal family.
