Ervin Spinner will tell you the Nazis looked past him because of his blonde curls and blue eyes, but through his extensive research into family history, he has found that his Jewish roots are deep, expansive and include quite a few cows.  His contribution to that history starts with his family and extends into his decades long commitment to his community, kiruv activities and volunteerism.  If that isn't enough of a legacy, he uses his retirement to help students achieve their dreams of entering graduate programs all over the world.  Some of these students are from his community, some are absolute strangers but to each one he devotes hours, sweat and tears, and cheers along-side them as they receive their acceptance letters.   As good engineers do, he turns dreams into reality.

Whether he is building an airplane, sewing a parochet or editing a personal essay, Ervin Spinner does it with graciousness and a smile on his face.  We are lucky to call you Daddy and Zeidie!

We are so proud that Emunah Montreal is honouring our dear mother and grandmother
Shoshana Neuer
who would be worthy of an award if only for the role she has played in lovingly raising seven children committed to Torah, Zionism, Jewish history, community engagement, culture, and laughter.

Yet there has also been a second act that we have watched with immense admiration. Using the same creativity, guidance, talent, and love for children that we experienced at home, she has tirelessly devoted herself to the Hebrew Academy preschool. As "Morah Shoshana," she has helped create a joyful foundation for a generation of Jewish Montrealers, preparing children to become confident and sensitive human beings, encouraging them to discover what makes them unique, and developing their intellect, artistic ability, creativity, spirit, and love of Torah.

Like a true Changemaker, she has spent a lifetime powerfully demonstrating that the highest form of leadership is teaching, because teaching creates tomorrow's leaders.

With all our love,
Menahem, Etzion & Carmen, Hillel, Aliza & Jeff, Ariel, Atara & Scott, Batsheva & Shaya, Alta & Harris, Gershon, Yaacov, Aharon, Ori, Galil, Adin, Layla, Emuna, Tal, and Lulav

To all whom honour is due,

This has been an exceptionally challenging year.
Despite the difficulties, we are so fortunate in Montreal and in Israel to have so many dedicated people who continuously stand up to tend to the well-being of those in need, physically, spiritually and in all other ways.

I congratulate all of our Changemakers, and congratulate Emunah for choosing to honour them.

ERVIN SPINNER
has always been a loyal and successful guide to his family and community.  Anyone who has approached him for help has never been turned down, turned off or turned away from his guidance.  He has amassed over sixty years of great satisfaction from family, friends, community members and especially his "students". Those who have had the opportunity to be mentored by Ervin never forget his parting words of encouragement as they walk out the door of our home to face the dreaded interview:
"Achievement, achievement, achievement. Go get em."
Ervin, Daddy, Zeide and Mr. Spinner:  may you derive countless years of  good health,  joy in your life and much nachas from your students.

With much love and respect,
Phyllis
