In Tribute to My Dear Husband, the Love of My Life

RABBI MOSHE GOTTESMAN ZTL
I present an edited copy of his last address,

at his retirement

It is as appropriate today as it was then,

on September 20, 2000

With the help of G-d, who has given me strength and vision, I have made my major life's contribution at HANC. Together with my colleagues, we have raised generations of outstanding young women and men, who have taken their place, in all walks of life throughout the United States, Israel and far flung countries of the world. Hardly a day goes by that I do not hear about the accomplishments, the successes, the achievements in business, in professions and in learning and the good deeds and friendship of our HANC students. And what a special nachas it is to walk from class to class and find the second generation, children of our children, happy, smiling and learning Torah. To me it means that the tree we planted has taken root,

has blossomed and bears fruit.

There has not been a waking moment in the past 41 years that HANC was not part of my thoughts. And how many, many times those waking moments extended far into the night. I can never separate myself from my school. My ties to HANC will always be strong. They will continue through the G'mach we established 6 years ago for teachers and students and the community at large. They will grow stronger through the Gottesman Learning Center, a special needs program we developed to service Jewish children whose needs cannot be met by our Yeshivas. They will become eternal through the relationships we have formed, the friends we have made,

and the students who are as beloved as our own children.

For the last 41 years together with my wife, Sondra, and with the support and selflessness of our own 5 children, we have dedicated ourselves to "creating Souls," to educating the future generations of Israel. No choice in life could have been more rewarding, more challenging or more fulfilling. But the time has now come to pursue other ventures and to pass the charge that was given to me in 1960 by Rabbi Fendel, to the next generation. To my successors I say, Find the good in every child and find it in your heart to love him for it. There is no teaching without love; there is no learning without love. You have my best wishes for much success and phenomenal growth.

Charles, with the help and support of your dear wife, Hanni,

you have been successful in bringing comfort and solace to

the Jewish Community at a time when all is confusion. You are the consoler, you know what to do and you do it with love and compassion.

We know. You took us by the hand and led us through Hospice.

Our relationship with Sam began in "Little HANC"and with Henny

in the cardiologist's office. What greater nachas for a teacher than to see

a student grow, to be a successful teacher? That would be

for the student to cherish that relationship as you did, Sam!

All your phone calls, all your visits, all the books you brought

to share with your Rebbi. All the time you took to talk to him.

And Henny always beside you with the most beautiful smile!

We are honored to count HANC's children as part of our extended family. Saba's pride in his students was always palpable. You at HANC experienced the warmth, dedication and investment of our Saba,
Rabbi Moshe Gottesman ז"ל

For us, his lessons consisted of Shabbos afternoon trips to the park,

Motzei Shabbos fireworks and hours of boisterous singing. We grew up

on Saba's stories-of his adventurous childhood and his recollections of

the gedolim he revered. Saba taught us what it means to be a spouse,

a parent and especially, a grandfather. He taught us what it means

to love Eretz Yisrael and Am Yisrael.

It is a testament to your legacy, Saba, when your students

feel like children and your children consider you their greatest teacher.

for teaching at HANC has been outstanding. The kindness, flexibility,

sense of humor and classroom management are the qualities that you possess.

This is what sets the bar for children of the ECC and prepares them

to take the next step in their life.

The Mlotok children and our grandchildren have also been fortunate

to have you as their mother and Nana. Being able to juggle it all.

Being the best mother and Nana in the whole world. I still don't know

how you do that multi-task thing.

Most fortunate though is the Dad. I thank Hashem every day for giving you

the strength to be able to give a Jewish education to the children of HANC

and still be able to give the love and care to your husband

and to our own children for the last 33 years...

and now to all our grandchildren.

When I walk the halls of HANC I often have the awesome thought

that my dear brothers Sam and Charlie walked here over 50 years ago.

With our beloved Parents, Dr. and Mrs. Sheldon Rudansky's zt"l love of Yiddishkeit , wisdom, and vision they enrolled them in HANC.

In these classrooms our Parents' eternal legacy was forged.

And these young, spirited boys blazed the path for all of us.
Our gratitude to all our beloved siblings has no bounds and the incredible blessing of making life's journey with you is indescribable. You are all the embodiment of Torah values and lead righteous, faithful lives. You are champions of chesed and together with your love for Klal Yisrael you have transformed and impacted countless lives in unbelievable ways. In all your professions you are in the trenches day in and day out bringing an uncanny compassion and inspiration to others with your love for Hashem, your indomitable spirit, and courage. IN HONOR OF OUR CHERISHED SISTER DEBBIE
who has devoted herself so selflessly to generations of children at HANC, constantly caring for them, nurturing them, and encouraging them with her endless supply of loving kindness

(and crackers and juice)! No matter how hectic the day, Debbie's door, like her heart, is always open to those in need, be it a fever, bruise, allergy, stomach ache, or the need for a compassionate and genuine smile and warm word of comfort. The one supply that never ran dry in Debbie's office was her love for each and every person who entered. Debbie's concern for each student, even decades after graduation, is reflected in how universally loved and appreciated she is by the entire HANC family.

We, her siblings, have been the tremendously fortunate recipients of this same constant, sincere, deep love and generosity. Debbie never waits for opportunities to give to another; she chases chessed and performs her innumerable acts of kindness with a love and happiness that are extraordinary. Debbie's superlative, magnificent, round the clock loving care of her (our) parents zt''l, throughout their lives, but most notably the last several years, speaks volumes about her all encompassing chessed and selflessness.

On this occasion of HANC's 66th Anniversary, and of Debbie's retirement as School Nurse of HANC Elementary after 20 remarkable, amazing, dedicated years, we celebrate our sister

as an exquisite Eyshes Chayil, who embodies the spirit of loving kindness like no other.
We wish Debbie a most resounding Mazel Tov on these past 20 years of devoted service to Klal Yisrael, and HANC, and pray for her continued health and nachas together with her beloved husband Perry

Growing up, you weren't asking us what we could do for you,

you were asking of us what we were capable of doing for ourselves.

There is no greater reflection of a parent's genuine selflessness than children who are manifesting their identity, independence and talents

in their own unique lives.

Unlike the relationship between Goff and McVay,

developing the Brady-Belichick dynamic takes a lot more courage,

sacrifice and willingness to see the true good and potential in the other.

Mom and Pop, you gave your children the tools to see what they were capable of, and you had the courage to allow us to develop the confidence

to go out into the world and live our lives in a authentic and forthright way

Mom, you set out to HANC 609 each morning to supply bandaids, ice, crackers, toothbrushes, tissues, medications, more ice, sandwiches, and more crackers, but, when you arrive in your office, you are the ultimate giver of empathy, encouragement, wise advice, positivity, joy...

and more crackers! Similar to Devorah the Prophetess, you "arose as a mother in Israel" - ensuring that each child was nurtured and cared for, given expert medical attention,

and imbued with confidence in his or her ability to succeed. For close to 20 years,

your generosity of spirit, listening ear, and world-renowned patience have endeared you

to hundreds of HANC students, parents, and colleagues!

Together with Dad you have taught us by example in every aspect of life -

Avodas Hashem, Middos Tovos, Kibbud Av v'Em, Kavod Habriyos, Ben Adam L'chavero, Simchas Hachaim, Shalom Bayis, and many more. You make every moment count by never wasting time and always taking advantage of opportunities to perform chesed, learn Torah

and express gratitude. Most of all, you are truly the greatest Mother/Grandma

You have always been among our biggest fans, cheering us on at our milestone events

and never missing an opportunity to fill us with confidence and laughter. You made it

a priority to spend time together on Shabbosim, Yamim Tovim, and Sundays in Garden City, creating a unique bond between aunts, uncles and cousins

that we cherish and continues to grow in the next generation!

Our beloved grandparents Dr. Sheldon and Mrs. Mary Rudansky A"H instilled in us

the values of trust in Hashem, gratitude, pursuit of shalom, and generosity.

Rabbi Gottesman was a giant of unassailable courage and unmatched love

for Klal Yisrael. His dedication to Yidden everywhere was so extraordinary, from small students in HANC's early childhood programs,

through high school, and to adults worldwide.

His passion for Eretz Yisrael was boundless, and contagious.

HANC is synonymous with Rabbi Gottesman, a partnership for over 60 years!

His bright, warm smile and his concern for every Jewish neshomah will always infuse the halls of the HANC schools. Rabbi's Gottesman's infectious laugh, and his excitement about Israel and Torah will permeate not only the halls

but the hearts of generations to come. He touched so many lives as a supreme educator and as an advocate for each individual he was involved with.

Our families have been deeply fortunate to have been influenced by Rabbi Gottesman, a sterling gem of a human being, and his Eyshis Chayil Sandra, who was at his side always, strengthening, encouraging, emboldening,

and achieving right along with Rabbi Gottesman. Together they achieved enormous benefits for Klal and for countless individuals. May this gathering

be an aliyah for his holy neshomah, and may Hashem continue to bless

his amazing extended family.

Dean Emeritus

Rabbi Moshe Gottesman zt"l

and is forever indebted in its Hakarat Hatov to him

for all that he enabled HANC to become.

At the epicenter of our Yeshiva, Rabbi Gottesman served as inspirational role model, exemplifying the highest ideals, and bearing the torch of Torah on Long Island. Through his vision and endless hard work, the lives of thousands of young Jewish students have been forever enriched.

with his talmidim while bestowing his erudition on them.

The Mlotoks were active and involved parents for so long that it is

no surprise that they have become passionate Grandparents of the Year.

We weren't zoche to be at HANC when Rabbi Gottesman, Z"L

was an administrator but our children have learned his special lessons

that still reverberate through the halls. The interactions we have had with him

will stay with us forever and we know what it is like to be

in the presence of a Gadol in the field of Jewish Education.
