Louise & Howard Schulder
Lifetime Achievement Award
With generous hearts and a passion for helping people and growing communities, Louise and Howard Schulder have made a huge contribution to the JCAB community.
Howard’s deep Jewish roots trace back to his upbringing in Lawrence, NY, where his parents were founding members of Congregation Beth Sholom. He is a proud graduate of HILI, Lawrence High School, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and Brooklyn Law School. Howard has 2 children – Amy married to Peter Kazanoff, has 2 children, Lily and Hannah; and Marcy, married to Andrew Barkan, who also has 2 children, Sophie and Ian. All live in Manhattan.
Louise was born in Connecticut and raised in a close-knit home in Baltimore. She grew up informed by the values of resilience, heart, and a deep commitment to others. A nurse by training, with degrees from Catholic University and Johns Hopkins, Louise founded ACCESS Nursing Services—growing it into the largest nurse- and female-owned business in New York and New Jersey. She later created WeeZee, a sensory health club supporting children with neuroprocessing challenges. She is the proud mother of two wonderful children, Paul and Shannon, and created a warm, active home filled with love, laughter, and purpose.
Inspired by the warmth of the Atlantic Beach Jewish community, Louise embraced Judaism in 2021, taking the name Ruth. That same year, she married Howard Schulder—her partner, mentor, and love—and began a joyful new chapter filled with faith, family, and community.
Howard has long been a pillar of the communities he cherishes. Professionally, Howard built a successful career in asset-based lending, primarily through his own firm. But it is his steadfast commitment to Jewish communal service that truly defines him. He has held leadership positions with UJA and Israel Bonds, was a proud member, board member, and officer of Town and Village Synagogue in Manhattan for over 45 years, has devoted years to volunteering with the Gural JCC, and, together with Louise, he co-founded the Schulder Free Loan Fund, administered by the Hebrew Free Loan Society and supported by the Leon Mayer Fund at the Mark Ramer Chesed Center. This initiative offers interest-free loans to individuals in financial need—quietly changing lives with dignity and compassion.
In JCAB, Howard and Louise bring creativity and warmth to every endeavor—from post-Shabbat movie nights to projects that foster a more welcoming and meaningful tefillah experience to Howard also knows to the unique “rabbi boat rides” to check the local Eruv and the much-anticipated Annual Kids Pool and Boat Party, which they host each summer for JCAB families.
Howard and Louise lead with heart, vision, and humility. We are honored to celebrate their lifelong dedication to community, kindness, and Klal Yisrael.
