County Executive
Bruce Blakeman
Murray Wallen Distinguished Service Award

Bruce Blakeman’s life has been defined by service—to his country, his community, and his faith. Born in Oceanside and raised in Valley Stream, Bruce comes from a proud family tradition of public service. That commitment to duty continues in his extended family, including his brother, Brad Blakeman, who served in President George W. Bush’s administration, and his heroic nephew, Court Officer Tommy Jurgens, z”l, who perished on September 11.

Bruce earned a degree in Political Science from Arizona State University and a law degree from California Western School of Law, and he later added a certificate in Homeland Security Management from Long Island University. An experienced attorney, he is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and numerous federal and state courts.

In 2021, Bruce was elected Nassau County Executive—the first Jewish person to hold this office. With his hallmark combination of legal insight, financial responsibility, and unwavering commitment to public safety, he has helped restore fiscal stability to the county, implemented bold safety reforms, and added hundreds of new police officers (and one outstanding Police Chaplain!) —all without raising taxes.

A proud Modern Orthodox Jew, Bruce is a regular worshipper and active member of JCAB. He lives in Atlantic Beach with his wife, Segal Blakeman, a respected family law attorney and Nassau County Family Court Judge. He often credits the support of their blended family as a source of strength in both his public and private life.

It is with great pride and appreciation that we honor Bruce Blakeman for his unwavering dedication to our people, our safety, and our shared future.
