Sandy and Avi Steiner
Guests of Honor
Sandy and Avi reside in Livingston and are the proud parents of Lilly (JKHA ’17, RKYHS ’21), Sam (JKHA ’20, RKYHS ’24), and Sophia (12th grade).
Both originally from Montreal, Sandy & Avi met at McGill University, beginning their married life on the Upper West Side of NYC. In 2009, they moved to Livingston and joined SSTC, where they found a warm and welcoming community, forming friendships that feel much more like family. As parents of young children at the time, Sandy and Avi jumped headfirst into Jewish communal life.
Avi is a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan, where he covers the High Yield Automotive and Media sectors. Avi served extensively on the SSTC board, starting on the Finance Committee, before becoming an Officer, eventually serving a 3 year term as President. Avi currently plays an active role in the synagogue’s security team and serves on the JKHA/RKYHS Finance Committee.
After earning her CPA designation, Sandy worked in international taxation in both Montreal and New York. While she enjoyed the world of accounting and tax codes, Sandy eventually transitioned to what she refers to as her true career, as a “professional volunteer” in the community she and Avi love.
Today, Sandy serves as Co-President of the Board of the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy/Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School, a position she has held for the past four years. Prior to this role, she served as Vice President of Finance, overseeing the Board’s finance-related subcommittees. Long before joining the Board, Sandy was already deeply involved as a parent volunteer, serving lunch and helping in the library. Sandy previously served as President of PTC and later co-chaired KPAC. Over the years, she has been part of many school initiatives, including the Annual Dinner, Names Not Numbers, Grandparents Day, Development and Events efforts, and the JKHA Drama Club.
Sandy often notes that one of the most meaningful aspects of her volunteer work has been the opportunity to collaborate with the school’s exceptional leadership, faculty, staff, and most of all, fellow parent volunteers—partners whose dedication and commitment make JKHA/RKYHS so special.
Sandy and Avi feel deeply grateful to be part of the Kushner community and are honored to support an institution that has meant so much to their family.
