Gala 2025: Hakarat Hatov
Gala 2025: Hakarat Hatov
Gratitude to Rabbi Simcha and Betty (a'h) Weiser
Rabbi Simcha Weiser, and his wife Betty, a'h, arrived in San Diego in August, 1981 with their two young children, committed to one idea: San Diego should be a great city in which they, and all others, can raise an inspired Jewish child.

Together they pursued this goal, reaching out to every segment of the community and tirelessly increasing the accessibility and appeal to timeless Torah education for all families.

Today, a multi-generational pipeline of inspired families live meaningfully, based upon the unfolding benefits of San Diego Hebrew Day's award-winning program. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the Weisers for their dedication to the San Diego Jewish community.
Gala 2025: Hakarat Hatov
With gratitude and thanksgiving to San Diego Hebrew Day School and our Jewish community for being our partners in raising our children here.

Gala 2025: Hakarat Hatov
To the San Diego Community,
Many of you watched us grow up and helped us along the way. Thank you for celebrating our individuality and strengths throughout our childhood. San Diego will always be our home because all of you.
To the Hebrew Day Teachers,
Thank you for refining our character and cultivating us as leaders both in and out of the classroom. The skills, ideas and, most of all, the love of learning that you gave us is a life long gift.
To our Parents,
Thank you for modelling passion, love and devotion to our family, to our community and to the Torah. We saw you hard at work, building Jewish San Diego and the Hebrew Day School. Accomplishing that mission gave us the drive to pursue our dreams and serve Hashem.
With great appreciation and so much love,
The Weiser Children
Gala 2025: Hakarat Hatov
With Deep Gratitude and Admiration
It is with heartfelt appreciation that we join the San Diego Hebrew Day School community in honoring Rabbi Weiser for over four decades of extraordinary leadership. For 43 years, Rabbi Weiser has been the heart and anchor of San Diego Hebrew Day. With unwavering dedication, he built more than a school - he built a community. A place where Torah is alive, where every Jewish child has a home, and where values, learning, and love for Am Yisrael are woven into every day.

On a personal level, we are especially grateful for the guidance, trust, and friendship Rabbi Weiser has extended to our family. Stepping into leadership this past year has been an honor made possible by his mentorship and his deep commitment to the future of the school. Thank you, Rabbi Weiser, for your vision, your warmth, and your lifetime of service. May the seeds you've planted continue to grow for generations to come.
With admiration and blessing, Benjamin and Karen Geiger

We've been blessed to have had 30 years of exceptional schooling and a wonderful sense of community during our time with Rabbi Weiser and Betty Weiser, A"H, and San Diego Hebrew Day. Our children have grown to appreciate the special role Jews have in this world, trying to live the values of Derech Eretz and Tikun Olam. In addition, by serving (and continuing to serve as reservists) with the Israel Defense Force, our sons recognize what it takes for the State of Israel to not only survive but to continue thriving.
We wish continued success for San Diego Hebrew Day under the dynamic helm of Rabbi Geiger. Yasher Koach, thank you, and may HaShem bless Israel and bring the last 59 hostages home safely.

It is with deep appreciation and heartfelt gratitude that we join the Hebrew Day School community in honoring Rabbi Weiser on the occasion of his retirement, and in remembering his beloved wife, Mrs. Betty Weiser, of blessed memory.
Our family has been profoundly touched by their dedication and love. Both of our daughters were fortunate to have Mrs. Weiser as a teacher. Her warmth, patience, and unwavering belief in each child's potential left a lasting impression-not only on our daughters, but on us as parents.
She brought joy, dignity, and a deep love of Torah into her classroom every day.
Rabbi Weiser's more than 40 years of service to the school has helped shape generations of students with integrity, wisdom, and a strong Jewish identity. His leadership, humility, and commitment to Torah values have elevated the entire school community.
Now, a generation later, our grandchildren also had the privilege of attending Hebrew Day School, continuing the legacy of learning and values that Rabbi and Mrs. Betty Weiser helped build. We feel incredibly blessed that our family has been guided and nurtured by such extraordinary educators.
May Rabbi Weiser go from strength to strength in this new chapter and may Betty's memory
continue to be a source of blessing and inspiration for us all.

For over four decades, Rabbi Weiser has been a pillar of wisdom, dedication, and leadership in our school community. His tireless commitment to Torah, education, and the growth of generations of students is an inspiration to us all.

Our family has been blessed to be part of this incredible community-our children and grandchildren as students, my wife Dorit as a dedicated preschool educator, and myself as a longtime board member.

To Rabbi Weiser and Betty z'l,
"Teachers open our eyes to the world. They give us curiosity and confidence. They teach us to ask questions. They connect us to our past and future. They're the guardians of our social heritage. We have lots of heroes today, and they are often celebrities - athletes, supermodels, media personalities. They come, they have their fifteen minutes of fame, and they go. But the influence of good teachers stays with us. They are the people who really shape our life."

I met Rabbi Weiser when he first came to San Diego in 1981.
From Day One, Rabbi Weiser worked tirelessly 10-12-14 hour days
to make the school what it is today...the Oldest Day School and I believe the Best Hebrew School in San Diego.

Betty taught and mentored hundreds of young women about strong
Jewish values and a love of Yiddishkeit The number of families
and generations taught to love Judaism is beyond comprehension.
I believe Hashem brought them from Dallas to San Diego for this
exact goal.

Yasher Koach to Rabbi Weiser and may the soul of Betty be

It is with tremendous Hakaras Ha-Tov for the incredibly positive impact that both Rabbi and Betty Weiser have had on our own and our extended family since 1982. In that year, it was with absolute Divine providence that our mother/Bubbe, Eilene Cummins, founded Hebrew Day. All 3 of her daughters' children were very fortunate to attend Hebrew Day, much to our betterment and directly connected to our growth in yiddishkeit.

Today, all 8 of her grandchildren are frum and raising their families in our deep and beautiful heritage. We could not be more thankful for the trajectory our whole family embarked upon because of the expert leadership and guidance of Rabbi and Betty Weiser.

This is a propitious time to extend our thanks to a very
special family. We first met Rabbi and Mrs, Betty Weiser nearly 44 years ago.
It was after midnight and Rabbi Weiser was really tired after
working nonstop for several weeks.
He has maintained this pace for nearly 44 years.
Rabbi Weiser and Rebbetzin Betty Weiser worked together to create
a school in which several thousand Jewish children have had the
privilege to study the 3330 years of the Jewish experience and
the results of that experience.
It has been a true privilege to work together with these
special leaders.

Rabbi and Rebbetzin Hollander and the 8 Hollander children that
benefited so greatly from the school built through the efforts of
the Weisers.

Mr. Reuben Klamer (z"l) began his involvement in the San Diego Hebrew Day School by teaching our middle school students what it means to be an inventor, how to harness creativity and how to create games that keep people engaged. Reuben was so inspired by the Middot (good character) and potential of our middle school students, he became interested in developing their leadership skills. This led to the creation of the Reuben Klamer 'Game of Life' Leadership Program, which continues to inspire and engage our students.

Mr. and Mrs. Zanville took it upon themselves to promote, support, and give leadership to Hebrew Day School. In 1971 they dedicated the school's science lab as the Hattie Zanville Memorial Science Laboratory, and each year an award is given honoring the memory of Leonard's mother.

Leonard stated in 1968: "Jewish education places a special emphasis upon wisdom, and Torah education is the wisdom that deals with human life. The San Diego Hebrew Day School has made learning, which is the great ideal of the Jew, a reality for hundreds of Jewish children, and will continue to educate thousands more in the future."

We gratefully acknowledge their generous support and thank Karen and Howard Langfus-for creating the Leonard and Ruth Zanville Scholarship Endowment in memory of their parents.
