Naomi Shakhman

We are thrilled to recognize the tremendous leadership and dedication of Naomi Shakhman. For two years, as the pandemic raged, Naomi navigated the unchartered waters of COVID protocols, child care licensing, and San Diego County regulations, and successfully kept the Hebrew Day Preschool open for students.
 
A Hebrew Day Alum, Naomi fondly remembers the warmth, connection and positivity she experienced as a student and knew she wanted her children to have a similar Hebrew Day experience. Naomi's love of Judaism and Israel was fostered while a student, and carries over to her work as Director of the Preschool.
 
Naomi serves on the Hebrew Day COVID Task Force, led by Dr. Abraham Broudy, and is a member of the San Diego Jewish Preschool Directors Group.

Mazal Tov and Yasher Koach on a well-deserved honor! Your dedication to our preschoolers and families is truly amazing. You have provided outstanding leadership during these challenging times, and have done so with poise, grace, kindness, and a smile on your face. We know how difficult it has been to navigate through all the COVID challenges over the past 2 years. Thank you for all that you do to teach our youngest students and place them on a path of Jewish learning. We are so proud of our daughter, Naomi Shakhman.  She has done an outstanding job as Director of the Preschool.  Not only has she created educational, motivating and creative programs for the preschoolers, but has judiciously followed the legally required COVID protocols to insure the safety of the students and staff during these two plus years of the pandemic. 

Naomi's dedication to her students, staff and school has been demonstrated through her tireless efforts to make improvements and time commitments at school and on off-hours

at home and weekends. Naomi, as an alumni, mother, wife, and teacher, truly represents the ideals of the Day School.

It is with immense pride and joy, we watch as our youngest son, Aiden, graduates from Hebrew Day. We know that a strong Judaic and Secular foundation has been laid for our children to stand on their own and contribute to the world in a positive way.

 

While we may not be on campus daily moving forward for the first time in 18 years, Hebrew Day will always be family and a community we will continue to be a part of. We are grateful for all the teachers, administration and staff who have dedicated themselves to help shape who our children are today.

In Tribute to Mr. Reuben Klamer (z"l)

 

Mr. Reuben Klamer (z"l) began his involvement in the San Diego Hebrew Day School by teaching our middle school students what it means to be an inventor, how to harness creativity and how to create games that keep people engaged. Reuben was so inspired by the Middot (good character) and potential of our middle school students, he became interested in developing their leadership skills. This led to the creation of the Reuben Klamer 'Game of Life' Leadership Program, which continues to inspire and

engage our students.
 
 

Tribute to Mrs. Kitty Silverman

Wise, insightful, caring,

and a most wonderful

sense of humor....
Kitty was the matriarch of her beautiful family, deeply tuned in

and connected to each of her descendants.  Kitty's was a voice

always heard within the community.  Kitty's impact

on countless families and on our community

was immeasurable, and we miss her.
 
May her memory continue to be

an inspiration to us all.

Tribute to Leonard and Edythe Tessler  ע´ה
The Tesslers were long time and visionary supporters

of the Hebrew Day School.
Our first Scholarship Fund Banquet, held in June 1983

was in honor of Edythe and Leonard Tessler.

The Tesslers always took a leadership role

in supporting Jewish education.

They continue to be missed by all who cherish Torah Education
