Striar Hebrew Academy
OUR MISSION
At Striar Hebrew Academy, we build community and better the future,
one child at a time. We embrace Modern Orthodox Judaism as the
wholehearted expression of Torah values and commitments through broad
participation in the world. As a community of diverse individuals with
shared values, our interpersonal, communal, and environmental
relationships are governed by tzedek (justice) and chesed (loving-kindness).
We offer an outstanding education in the joyous context of Torah and
ahavat Yisrael (love of Israel), with equal emphasis on excellence in
general and Judaic studies. Our teaching and learning engage the full
range of our students' abilities, talents, and interests, providing them
with the tools to explore and discover, as each child develops an integrated
and confident sense of self.

Rabbi Jordan and Dr. Marti Soffer
Honorees
"We moved to Sharon in the summer of 2019. After living on the Upper East Side for three years, we chose to relocate to Sharon for Marti's fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. After bumping into our close friends, Moshe and Rachel Klausner, on Simchat Torah on the UES, we learned about SHAS and the amazing Sharon community. Landing in SHAS and Sharon was a true beshert.
We immediately fell in love with SHAS and Sharon. Other than being hit by a car and a global pandemic, the first year was a great success. The school began to grow, and the stroller parking lot at shul began to fill up.
Honorees
continued
As Marti finished her 3-year fellowship, we knew we wanted to stay in Sharon, and we were thrilled for Jordan to sign his second contract to remain at the school. We navigated all of the stages of COVID, and the school continued to grow and expand. We transformed The Yaakov Spellman Early Learning Center, increased informal programming, and focused on community building and engagement.
Now in year 7, we have nothing but love for our Sharon family. We love the intergenerational friendships that we have. Not only do we cross age lines, we defy any barriers in this community. Jordan has been involved in everything from Mishmar to basketball to Tot Shabbat. Marti has been a scholar in residence for Young Israel, has helped volunteer for PTO, and has been SHAS's biggest cheerleader throughout. Honorees
continued
Our greatest joy is that three of our children have gotten to share in the SHAS magic. We adore the teachers at SHAS. We have been blessed to work with supportive boards, and we cannot say enough about what this community means to us!
This year, SHAS is the biggest tzedakah that we will be giving to, and we hope that you will join us!"
From the SHAS community
We feel so blessed to have had the pleasure of having the Soffers join our SHAS family, and the honor of having Rabbi Soffer as our Head of School. Honorees
continued
The face of SHAS, Rabbi Soffer embodies true "Shassyness." Not your average Head of School, he is a friend - both to students, to staff and to members of the greater community. He is someone people feel comfortable opening up to about anything, as he always responds with kindness and insightful feedback, and he never judges; he creates a culture of "yes."
We are so proud of Rabbi Soffer for everything he has done during his 6 and a half years at SHAS. From revamping the The Yaakov Spellman Early Learning Center, (now Shorashim: Yaakov Spellman Early Learning Center, a program that SHAS parents are deeply grateful for), to writing his weekly Shavua b'SHAS letters from the heart, to approaching his job as a passion and a calling, Rabbi Soffer has consistently shown up as a mensch, a leader and a friend. Jordan-SHAS and our community are so blessed to have benefited from your passion, vision and fortitude for the past 7 years. You have created an energy and environment that raised the spirits of SHAS students, faculty, and families alike. Personally, I feel extraordinarily privileged to have worked closely with you for many of those years-we brainstormed, learned, problem-solved, and grew in many ways together (learning way more about pandemics, policies, and HVAC systems than we ever could have imagined). I always enjoy talking to you about SHAS, your family, and the triumphs and tribulations that life brings us. Your impact on SHAS and each of us will remain, no matter how far you go. We cannot thank you enough. Marti-you are truly an inspiration as a mother, wife, friend, and high-risk physician. I have enjoyed sharing professional interests, watching your children grow, and have felt inspired by the love and respect that you and Jordan share and bring to those around you. We all look forward to hearing great things about your family-and-professional lives and are already looking forward to your future Sharon visits! Mazal tov!

אמר רבי אלעזר אמר רבי חנינא תלמידי חכמים מרבים שלום בעולם
שנאמר וכל בניך לימודי ה' ורב שלום בניך אל תקרי בניך אלא בוניך
Rabbi Elazar said in the name of Rabbi Hanina: The students of the sages increase peace in the
world, as it is said: "And all your children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the
peace of your children" (Isaiah 54). Read not, "your children" but rather "your builders."
At times, this reading has seemed troubling, for it appeared to replace the most important
element of the pasuk from Isaiah, the children. But you, Jordan, and Marti, illustrate its
wisdom. Teaching the children to increase peace requires builders, like you.
We are so grateful that you have built up our school, our children, and our community.
May you go from strength to strength. We will miss you.
