Miriam Gartenberg
Rabbi J. Shelley Applbaum, Z"L Service Award
Just over thirty years ago, Mrs. Miriam Gartenberg walked through the doors of Moriah, the place that very soon became her second home. Beginning as a first grade teacher, Mrs. Gartenberg enjoyed nurturing students as they transitioned from early childhood and creating a warm, comfortable environment for these early learners. Discovering the best learning style to reach each individual child kept every day both challenging and exciting. After a brief move to California, it was an easy decision for Mrs. Gartenberg to come straight back home to Moriah, this time as part of the second grade team where she has remained. Mrs. Gartenberg especially values collaborating with colleagues and encourages her students to do the same by enhancing their learning in cooperative groups. The opportunity to mentor new teachers is one of the highlights of her week. The unique warmth and connection of the Moriah faculty has created lifelong, supportive friendships, both personally and professionally for her. Moriah is grateful that Mrs. Gartenberg has devoted her career to Moriah while working tirelessly for our students.
Miriam and her husband Michael are thankful for their four children, all Moriah alumni, and four newer children by marriage. Best of all, they feel incredibly blessed with five adorable grandchildren, all of whose names appear frequently in math problems and spelling sentences to the delight of her second grade students.
