Jill & Jonathan Bohrer
Young Leadership Honorees
Jill and Jonathan Bohrer moved to Purchase when their daughter Alice was just a year and a half old, and their son Jack arrived soon after. Like many young families, they began “shul shopping,” hoping to find a warm community that could become the foundation of their Jewish life and a place to begin their young children’s education.
The moment Jill walked into Temple Israel Center for her first “mommy and me” class at the nursery school, everything felt familiar. The moms were swapping holiday recipes and warmly welcoming her. She met friends whose grandparents had been lifelong best friends with her grandparents, all living in the same Brooklyn apartment building. Jill immediately sensed that TIC was where her family belonged. They joined Temple Israel Center shortly after arriving in Westchester from Tribeca, drawn in by the warmth of the nursery school community.
Jill and Jonathan both come from families with deep Jewish traditions. Jill grew up in New Rochelle, and Jonathan in Norwalk, Connecticut. While their spiritual upbringings differed, they shared a deep appreciation for Jewish tradition, Israel, and family values. When they began exploring synagogues as new parents, they were drawn to TIC’s inclusive community spirit and thoughtful approach to Jewish life.
As Jill spent her days at the Nursery School with Alice and Jack, she quickly became involved. She was enthusiastically encouraged to participate, and before long was asked to become PTO Co-Chair. She agreed—on the condition that Jessica Levinson join her. Together, Jill and Jessica strengthened programming, built community, and supported a thriving Nursery School of 60 families. When it came time to pass on the PTO leadership, the Carr family had just joined the community. Jill and Lissy immediately connected, forming a fast friendship forged during drop-off conversations and shared nursery school years.
Paige was born in January 2016, and it was the TIC community that surrounded the Bohrers with support. Her baby naming was held at TIC—a moment that solidified the synagogue as a true spiritual home. Shortly after, in 2017, the Bohrers moved to White Plains, right across the street from the Chinitz family, which sparked many shared TIC traditions, including their beloved annual walk together to High Holiday services in the TIC tent.
Jill joined the TIC Board in 2019, stepping into leadership during the deeply challenging—and meaningful—COVID years. She later co-chaired the 2022 Gala honoring the Carrs and the 2024 Gala honoring the Levinsons, roles that felt like a natural extension of her deep commitment to the synagogue. Jonathan currently sits on the TIC Board, as well as on the Investment Committee. Over the years, he has been involved in many areas of synagogue life, including pitching in for galas—stuffing bags, delivering boxes, and helping modernize the wine and scotch fundraisers. Jonathan has always appreciated the TIC community, especially gathering with friends during kiddush on Shabbat mornings.
Beyond TIC, Jill and Jonathan are active in the broader Jewish and Westchester communities. They are supporters of UJA Federation, FIDF, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They are also committed members of the Leffell School community, where Alice, Jack, and Paige are students, and they believe deeply in the importance of Jewish education as the foundation for the future of modern Judaism in America. TIC has played a central role in nurturing each of their children’s Jewish identities, and the Bohrers cherish the meaningful experiences that have placed TIC at the center of their family’s life from the very beginning.
Jill and Jonathan met in 2004 while both were working at American Express, and they were married at Beth El Synagogue Center in New Rochelle, where Jill grew up. Jill is currently a marketing executive with M&T Bank, where she leads marketing strategy through strategic partnerships and customer innovation. Prior to M&T, she was at SapientRazorfish. Jill began her career at American Express after earning her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Jonathan is President of Abacus Group, a global technology and cybersecurity services firm based in New York. He oversees M&A, sales, marketing, strategic partnerships, and the Europe and Middle East regions. Before joining Abacus, Jonathan held executive roles at Convergex Group, American Express, and General Electric. Jonathan holds a B.S. in Operations Management from Syracuse University and an M.B.A. from Penn State University.
Jill and Jonathan are especially proud to celebrate this evening with Renana and Robert Rosenbloom, whose leadership and warmth embody the very best of TIC. For the Bohrers, TIC has become more than a synagogue—it is their core community, where their values and friendships are deeply rooted. As they reflect on more than a decade of connection, growth, and community, they feel immense gratitude for the memories TIC has given their family—and look forward to many more years of shared celebration and service.
