As we celebrate our Young Israel's 70th anniversary, we are filled with immense hakarat hatov to the shul's founders and early leaders, many of whom we were privileged to know personally. Their dedication and self-sacrifice built not just a shul but a community of Torah and Chesed here in West Hempstead.
We fondly recall the inspiring leadership of Rabbi Fendel ZT"L, Rabbi Gold ZT"L, and, of course, Rabbi Kelemer ZT"L, whose vision and wisdom shaped the vibrant community we cherish today. Their legacy continues to guide us all, and we stand on their shoulders with profound appreciation.

We are honored to share this occasion with our fellow honoree, Rabbi Meir Finkelstein. From the moment we met him six years ago during his rabbinic internship, we all knew he was destined for greatness. His contributions to our community have been invaluable, and while we will deeply miss his Shabbos shiurim, we rejoice in his dream to live and teach Torah in Eretz Yisrael. He truly embodies the spirit of the Rabbi Yehuda Kelemer ZT"L Harbatzas Torah Award.

When we moved to West Hempstead nearly nine years ago, we were looking for a house but found a home-not just within four walls, but within a kehillah that embraces, nurtures, and inspires each of its members. The Young Israel of West Hempstead quickly became the center of our lives, a place where individual contributions weave together to form something greater than ourselves.
Service to community isn't just about the positions we hold or committees we join. What makes our kehillah special is the everyday moments: the post-davening conversations, the impromptu playdates, and yes, even those lengthy email threads about shul events. Every program created, every hand extended in welcome, every moment of shared joy or comfort offered during challenging times-these are the threads that strengthen our communal fabric. These connections, both big and small, are what transform a group of individuals into a true community.

When Mark and I first moved to West Hempstead, it took us some time to find our place, but once we did, we've never looked back. As I reflect upon the last six years, I am filled with hakaras hatov. The opportunity to serve the Young Israel of West Hempstead community has been a privilege and a joy. Our community is one filled with warmth, friendship, and a desire for spiritual growth, and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
The mesorah of the Young Israel of West Hempstead, as transmitted through the Torah personalities who have walked through its doors, is humbling and inspiring. Thinking about the community's leadership going back to Rabbi Fendel zt"l, Rabbi Gold zt"l, and, of course, Rabbi Kelemer zt"l fills me with a sense of awe and admiration. While I wish I could have known Rabbi Kelemer for longer, the small amount of time that I was privileged to learn from him is something for which I am very grateful. I have continued to learn about his Torah and middos through the various teachings and stories that many of you have shared with me over the
