Rachel Barber Schwartz is the immediate past president of the Ben Porat Yosef Board of Trustees (2020-2023). During Rachel’s seven years as a board member, she chaired three committees and served as a member of multiple others. Her unparalleled leadership focused on what makes BPY special – putting empathy and the school’s distinct mission at the forefront of everything the school does.  Among Rachel’s many contributions, she oversaw vital security improvements, spearheaded the school’s COVID reopening plan, and helped lead BPY’s NJAIS/Middle States accreditation process.

For Rachel and her husband Daniel Schwartz, the choice to join BPY in 2011 was an easy one: the immersive Hebrew program, the deep and authentic connection to Israel, and the unique multi-heritage emphasis on all aspects of learning. Thanks to BPY, their children Millie (‘21) and Emanuel (‘23) both graduated with a strong command of Hebrew, a true bond with Israel, and asense of belonging in the broader Jewish world.

Rachel and her family live in Teaneck and are members of Congregation Keter Torah and Congregation Rinat Yisrael.
