In 1985, Vicky and her husband, Michael, moved to Hollis Hills and joined the Hollis Hills Jewish Center. A congregant and neighbor invited her to a Sisterhood meeting, which led Vicky to join a committee that welcomed new members with challah, wine, and cookies. She also began a long tradition of bringing new fundraising ideas to monthly meetings and went on to run Sisterhood’s Annual Chanukah Boutique and the Purim Project. Vicky has also served as Sisterhood Co-President.

 

Throughout the years, Vicky chaired several annual summer day trips and, until the Borscht Belt no longer had viable hotels for Sisterhood to patronize, she coordinated the popular annual weekend in the Catskills. Along with serving on the planning committee for Torah Fund, Vicky takes pride in being a past honoree.  

 

When she and Michael moved to the community, they were the “younger generation” and quickly became Co-Presidents of the Young Marrieds Club. As she moved from one phase of her life to another, she brought her “can do” spirit to other facets of the synagogue. When her sons were tots, Vicky, along with another parent, established a long-running weekly Shabbat mini-Minyanim for 2-6 year-olds. And, for more than 15 years, she and Michael co-chaired the synagogue’s annual dinner gala of which they are proud past honorees.  

 

Vicky takes pride in her beautiful family – her wonderful and supportive husband, Michael; 3 sons, who graduated from Solomon Schechter School of Queens, and their families: Seth, his wife Adeena and 2 grandchildren, Noa and Max; Peter, his wife Emily and 2 granddaughters, Joanna and Zoey; and David and his fiancée Mimi.

 

In countless ways, L’dor V’dor, from one generation to the next, describes the love of Judaism and commitment to community that Vicky inherited from her parents and is pleased to pass on to the next generation.
