The son of Sydney and Emily Udell, of blessed memory, Richard is a native Baltimorean. He served 5 years in the Navy. Richard has always been a hard working volunteer. More than 50 years ago, he began working with the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company , and continues to this day, as a Fireman and as an EMT.

 

Richard’s introduction to Chizuk Amuno came through his then fiancee. Harriet’s family were long time members of the Congregation. Richard and Harriet were married here in 1965. Unfortunately, Richard’s wife Harriet (nee Preissman) Udell recently passed away. He has supported the Chizuk Amuno Community as a long time active member of the Brotherhood, as a member of the Brotherhood Board, and as the President of the Brotherhood. He fondly remembers his years with his friend Marvin Spector mentoring youth through the “Bar-Mitzvah Brotherhood”, a program which unfortunately is no longer active.

Richard has retired from the business world, but remains active at Chizuk Amuno, the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Pikesville Chamber of Commerce. He is the brother of Hannah Flax, the father of Dr. Eric Udell, and Stephanie Rosenblatt, and has five grandchildren.
