Our Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Shaul J. Kassin is a descendent of a dynasty of scholars that began in Spain, Jerusalem and Aleppo as far back as the 1500’s. His great grandfather, Jacob Kassin A”H, led the community in the 1930’s until 1994. Rabbi Kassin’s grandfather, Saul J. Kassin, of blessed memory, was then appointed the spiritual leader and led the community with love, tolerance, and respect for everyone until his passing in 2018. Our Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Shaul J. Kassin then took over the position.
 
Rabbi Kassin studied at Magen David Yeshiva, Flatbush Yeshiva, BMT and the prestigious Porah Yosef Yeshiva. He received his distinguished rabbinical ordination from illustrious rabbis including Rabbi Ovadia Yosef A”H, Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu A”H and his grandfather, Rabbi Saul J. Kassin.
 
Rabbi Kassin is married to Rachel (Tawil) and together they have eight children, Sari, Jacob, Ralph, Aaron, Sharon, Joyce, Eli, and Marilyn. They moved to the Jersey Shore in 2002 and he has since become one of our community’s most inspirational leaders. Rabbi Kassin teaches in Hillel Yeshiva and is the head rabbi at Congregation Magen David of West Deal. As a role model and spiritual leader, his knowledge, soft-spoken manner and sense of humor have endeared him to countless students and community members.
 
We are thrilled that Rabbi Kassin is this year’s Journal honoree. His teaching and dedication to Hillel Yeshiva has strengthened the bonds of our students and alumni to embrace the importance of Hillel Yeshiva’s goal of hesed and giving back to our community.
 
Rabbi Kassin continues the legacy and traditions of his great grandfather and grandfather by leading all aspects of our community with love, respect and tolerance.
