JOAN & GREGG LERNER
Joan and Gregg Lerner are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate with their extended Temple Israel Center family on February 28.  Temple Israel Center has been their spiritual home since 1993, and they are deeply honored to be part of, and to celebrate with, this wonderful community.  They have celebrated s’mahot at Temple Israel Center, including the celebrations of their children, Zachary (27) and Matthew (23) becoming b’nai mitzvah, and have found comfort and support in our community during times of need.   They are inspired by and deeply grateful for the guidance and friendship of Temple Israel Center’s extraordinary clergy, Rabbis Tucker, Goldman and Shargel, and Cantors Mendelson and Mordecai.

Since they first joined the community, Joan and Gregg have been active members of our synagogue.  We are privileged that Gregg recently served as President and has been a member of the Executive Committee for 12 years. Gregg was the gabbai on the Days of Awe for more than 10 years and has also served on clergy search committees and as a member of the Ritual and Personnel Committees.  Joan has served on the Nominating Committee, has co-chaired past Galas, was a member of the committee that compiled the Mishneh La-Mahzor and coordinated Temple Israel Center’s first Habitat for Humanity Day.  The Lerner family travelled with the synagogue community to Israel in 2004 and to Eastern Europe in 2006 and also has participated in numerous other programs including Midnight Run and providing food to a local food pantry that Temple Israel Center supports.

Joan was graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Teachers College of Columbia University.  She has served as a member of the Johns Hopkins Alumni Council, the Second Decade Society and other alumni committees.  She has worked at New York Law School for over 35 years in numerous roles including Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and currently as Associate Dean.   While Zachary and Matthew attended the Scarsdale schools, Joan was active in the Green Acres and Middle School PTAs.  Gregg was graduated from Amherst College and New York University School of Law and is the Co-Managing Partner of Friedman Kaplan Seiler and Adelman LLP.  He has practiced corporate law for over 30 years, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and financings.  He is currently the Chairman of the Greyston Bakery of Yonkers, Co-Chairman and a member of the Board of the Greyston Foundation and an active alumnus of Amherst College.  He is a past member of the Board of the Learning Disabilities Association of the City of New York and of the Scarsdale Little League.  Joan and Gregg are proud to continue the legacy of community involvement and derekh eretz of their parents, Nathan (z’’l) and Ruth Fishman and Howard and Rita Lerner.

Joan and Gregg are grateful to be  honored at this year’s Gala and are truly thankful for the friendship and support of the Temple Israel Center community.  They congratulate Wendy and Jeremy on their “Young Leadership” recognition and are delighted to share this celebration with them.

WENDY PROSKIN & JEREMY ZUCKER
Wendy Proskin and Jeremy Zucker were delighted when Bruce Wexler asked them to be the recipients of the Young Leadership Award for the Temple Israel Center Gala this year.

When they moved to White Plains from Yonkers seven years ago to be within walking distance to the shul; little did they know that they would end up right next door!   Whether hosting a bonfire for Lag B’Omer or a Backyard Shabbat in the summer, Wendy and Jeremy have come to appreciate the warmth and vibrancy of the community and have a great appreciation for the wonderful clergy at Temple Israel Center.

Jeremy served on the Board of Trustees at Temple Israel Center for two terms after first serving on the Nominating Committee. He co-chaired the fundraising efforts for the 2012 Gala and is currently involved with the Young Couples Committee, having most recently co-chaired the Sippin’ in the Sukkah event this fall.  Jeremy is on the Development Committee at Schechter Westchester and can often be found serving hot lunch to the Lower School students. Jeremy is a real estate agent with Keller Williams and has been voted a Five Star Realtor by Westchester Magazine for the past five years. Prior to becoming a realtor, he was an equity trader and research analyst.  Jeremy was graduated from the University at Albany with a BS in finance.  Jeremy enjoys yoga, swimming, rock climbing and getting dirty at the annual Trauma Mud Run at Westchester Medical Center (where he has finished in the top fifteen in each of the past three years).

Wendy currently serves on the Assistant Rabbi Search Committee and the TIC Connect Committee.  She is also active in the Shabbat Activities Committee, for which she helps prepare Shabbat dinners for more than 150 participants for each event.  She co-chaired the Sisterhood Hoedown in 2011, bringing Smokey Joe’s and square dancing to the hay-filled reception halls.  More recently, she served as a speaker at the Women’s Health Fair sponsored by the Sisterhood.  Wendy is a pediatrician at WestMed and was just voted Top Doctor in Westchester for the fourth year in a row.  She was graduated from Brandeis University with a BA in psychology.  Wendy received her MD from SUNY Downstate, where she was inducted into the AOA Honor Society and did her residency at Montefiore Medical Center.  Wendy enjoys running, spinning, knitting and baking hallah and in her free time can be found reading young adult fiction, often on her daughter’s recommendation.

Jeremy and Wendy regularly attend Shabbat services with their three daughters, Petra, Tova and Orli.  They can be counted on to be dressed in costume for each and every Silly Shabbat and it has been overheard in the sanctuary that one only has to look at Wendy and Jeremy to know what the theme is that week.  They are incredibly grateful to be a part of the community at Temple Israel Center and are honored to be chosen as this year’s recipients of the Young Leadership Award.  Wendy and Jeremy are delighted to be celebrating with Joan and Gregg and wish a Mazal Tov to them and their family on this well-deserved honor.
