Sharon & Alan Shulman
Guests of Honor

Alan and Sharon Shulman moved to West Hempstead in the summer of 1986, joining a wave of approximately 35 families who were building what would become a close-knit community. It had that rare small-town quality — you may not have been close friends with everyone, but you knew who everyone was.

Their path to the neighborhood began with the Wiesel family, who first told them about the area. But it wasn't until Alan began working alongside Nava Simpson, who graciously offered to show them around, that the decision truly took shape. They arrived with their daughters Rikki and Dani, then three years old and one, ready to plant roots. Pearl Greene welcomed them warmly, personally ensuring that Rikki would have a spot at HANC — no small thing, given that they were moving in the middle of the summer.

All of their children went on to attend HANC, with the boys continuing at Rambam Mesivta and the girls at Central High School.
The family they've built is a source of tremendous pride. Rikki is a physical therapist practicing in the Five Towns. Dani has built an impressive career in finance and serves as a Senior Vice President at City National Bank. Eli is a fund manager with Brookfield Properties; he and his wife Tehilla, along with their four children — Ayla, Shlomo, Molly, and Liat — made Aliyah three years ago and now call Ramat Beit Shemesh home. Adi, a geologist, made Aliyah seven years ago and lives in Jerusalem. Lev is a land management specialist with New York State Parks and Recreation.

Alan has been a partner at Mauzone Kosher Foods — now Main Event Mauzone Caterers — since 1982, providing the community with quality kosher take-home foods and catering milestone events for over four decades. Most recently, the company has expanded its reach by supplying kosher, nutritious meals for the NYC Department of Aging. Sharon, a former Assistant District Attorney in Queens County, has been associated with Queens College for over 30 years, serving in a variety of administrative roles. She is a lifetime member of the Young Israel of West Hempstead Sisterhood and has been an active member of the Women's Chevra Kadisha since the family first arrived in the community.
Together, Alan and Sharon have given generously of their time and resources to causes close to their hearts, including the Jewish Lawyers' Guild, The Hevron Fund, Ateres Kohanim, and FIDF. But perhaps nothing reflects their values more than their longstanding partnership with the One Israel Fund, for whom they have hosted the annual OIF BBQ at their home for the past fifteen years — a tradition that brings the community together and speaks to their deep and abiding connection to Eretz Yisrael.

The Young Israel of West Hempstead is proud to honor Alan and Sharon Shulman — for their decades of dedication to family, community, and Klal Yisrael.
