Rabbi Moshe and Kelsey Yachnes have been proud members of the Ahavas Sholom Community since they moved to Columbus 2 years ago.

Kelsey co-chaired her first Ahavas Sholom event, a bar/bat mitzvah celebration for those who were unable to celebrate during COVID just a few months after arriving in Columbus. She has since been involved in organizing countless shul events, such as shabbos mevorchim kiddush luncheons, pre-Rosh Hashana apple picking, and most recently, the cholent cookoff. Additionally, Kelsey has helped with organizing programming for different age groups in the shul and has served as a member of the shul’s board for the last year. Kelsey has been involved with the Mikvah as well as spearheaded several initiatives for the broader Columbus Jewish community, such as Jewish Women Connect and the Jewish Columbus Fertility Network.

Rabbi Yachnes helps the shul in a variety of ways, from putting together and sending out the weekly shul newsletter and announcements to helping the shul fill its rabbinic needs. He regularly leads davening and occasionally gives shiurim and drashas for the shul. Rabbi Yachnes also serves as an active member of the rabbinic search committee and helps keep the shul’s website updated. This is all in addition to his role as a popular and respected Rabbi at the Columbus Torah Academy.
Rabbi Moshe and Mrs. Yachnes have two sons, Yitzy and Ephraim, who both attended Gan Ephraim pre-school this year.

Rabbi Yachnes grew up in St. Louis,MO and attended Yeshiva Chofetz where he received his semicha. Kelsey grew up in Savannah, GA and received her nursing degree from Touro University. She currently is the nurse manager at one of Columbus’s main Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility practices. They both credit their parents for instilling in them the values of  spreading Torah, helping others, and working on behalf of the klal.

The Yachnes family loves Columbus for its midwestern, out-of-town warmth, and because it is a place where every person makes a difference in the community. Rabbi Moshe and Kelsey hope to be able to inspire their children and others around them to realize how impactful they can be and to get involved in community work and use their unique talents and strengths to help others.
