Honorees
Shuli & Efrem Popel are a unique couple, in-sync in their communal mindset. They’ve been involved members of Mikor HaChaim for 14 years and changing lives at Camp HASC for 20+ years. Shuli is a labor & delivery nurse and Efrem is a special education teacher for Chicago Public Schools. They pride themselves on their children, Zev, Shira and Shana, who also embody the ideals of torah, chesed and mentschlichkeit. It is most befitting that the Popels are receiving the Lev v’Nefesh award from Yachad, for their years of dedication to Yachad and its mission of inclusion in the community.
Pillars in the Skokie community and beyond, Susan & Shabsa Lis have been involved with Yachad for more than a decade. Their son Michel, a participant in many of our programs, is a young man whose magnetic personality shines through wherever he goes. Shabsa is a corporate attorney in practice for 30+ years and a past president of Or Torah in Skokie; Susan is the medical director of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. They are the parents of six children, all of which have been or are currently involved in Yachad as participants, peers or advisors. It is with great pride that we present the Tzorchai Tzibur award to the Lises.
