David Silverstein
Immediate Past President of DOI Board of Governors

David Silverstein, Esq, has served as president of the Board of Daughters of Israel from 2017-2020. Under David’s leadership, the Strategic Vision & Planning Committee made tremendous progress on the future plans for the new Daughters of Israel campus. David’s expertise in legal, business, and construction matters helped to facilitate the entire process, including the selection of consultants.

David has exhibited extraordinary leadership and unwavering support for the Home during the pandemic. In fact, he was the driving force behind the emergency fundraising campaign, which he spearheaded.  Furthermore, along with his wife Randi, David supplied hundreds of snack bags and washable masks to increase the morale and safety of our hard-working staff members. He also was in daily contact with the Home in order to keep apprised of what was happening with our staff and residents.

David’s first contact with Daughters was in late 2005, when he was working with a construction management company that was retained to manage the renovation and addition to the Slobodien and Women’s League Pavilions. During this time, David interacted closely with the administration and staff, as the construction entailed many logistical changes. Although David may not have realized it at the time, this was the beginning of a journey that led him to become president.

Whatever initiative David takes on at our Home, whether chairing Casino Night, or helping to map out the long-term vision for our Home, he rolls up his sleeves and is hands on. David is astute and shrewd, and his trademark sense of charisma generates enthusiasm among those on any committee in which he is involved. For those who know David, they know he has a huge heart, constantly displaying kindness and compassion to both residents and staff members. We extend our deepest gratitude to David for his dedication to our Home, and for helping usher in Jason Halper, as our new President.

Jason Halper
President of DOI Board of Governors

Jason Halper, Esq, has served on the Board of Daughters of Israel since 2014, and in 2017, joined the Executive Committee as a Vice President. Before Jason joined the Board, he felt connected to our Home, as his grandfather, David Halper, and great aunt, Ida Falkenheim, obm, were residents.

Jason has played an active role at Daughters, co-chairing our largest fundraiser, the Fern Forman Memorial Golf Tournament, for the last two years, with Dan Klinger, and Honorary Chair Michael Forman. A new and successful component Jason introduced to Golf was tennis, providing another enjoyable option to increase attendance, raise awareness, and increase revenue for the Home.  In addition, Jason has also served on our Casino Night Committee, and over the years, has also served on the Budget/Finance, By-laws, Corporate Compliance, Nominating, and Strategic Planning Committees.

Dr. Joshua Schor
DOI Medical Director Emeritus

Dr. Joshua Schor has been caring for residents at Daughters of Israel since 1992. Although Dr. Schor has stepped down from his current role as Medical Director this past June, he has assumed the role of Medical Director Emeritus and will continue to see patients on our short-term unit. He is also working with Dr. Muthu Arunachalam (or Dr. Arun, as we all call him), a member of our medical team for many years, who has assumed the role of Medical Director.

Dr. Schor was the recipient of many awards during his tenure here, including being recognized on a national level as “Medical Director of the Year” in 2017 by AMDA. Anticipating the growing need for quality post-acute care Dr. Schor played a leadership role in creating a separate Rehab Center at Daughters of Israel, which opened in 2009. He also launched a program at Daughters of Israel called “Caring Conversations” through a New Jersey Council for the Humanities grant, which brought staff together to talk and share around a variety of issues to promote teamwork, communication, and job satisfaction.  He is also the author of, “The Nursing Home Guide: A Doctor Reveals What You Need to Know About Long-Term Care (Berkley Books, 2008).

We thank Dr. Schor for all of his years of outstanding service and dedication to our Home. He is a true role model when it comes to “Humanism in Healthcare” and we wish him the best as he embarks on a new chapter in his life, at Optum!
