We are honored to present the
Kinor David Award to
Beth and Marty Aron

Beth and Marty Aron met singing in the Zamir Chorale, drawn by their passion for choral singing and a legacy of musical expression. Marty is the grandson of a cantor. His father sang on a Yiddish radio show while growing up in Boston and his mother required each of her children to study piano. Beth’s mother was a talented musician and choral conductor. Her father comes from a family of musicians and is a lifelong violinist. Prior to college, Marty studied piano and music theory at the Berklee College of Music. Upon graduation from Cherry Hill High School East in New Jersey, the faculty awarded him the Fredric Chopin Piano Award.
Both Beth and Marty have devoted decades of leadership to the Zamir Choral Foundation in various capacities: Marty joined Zamir as a college student in 1977 and became the first Board President after facilitating the transition of the Zamir Chorale into the Zamir Choral Foundation. He continues to serve as legal advisor. Beth served as Treasurer for many years and is a long-standing member of the Finance and Executive Committees. Beth has also been a soloist with the Zamir Chorale in addition to playing flute accompaniment for many of Zamir’s concerts. Beth and Marty have sung for victims of terror with the Foundation’s missions to Israel. They have performed in Zamir's concerts in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the White House and with Elie Wiesel, z”l, as well as other venues in the United States and Israel.
To honor the legacy of Marty’s father, Beth and Marty commissioned a choral composition in Yiddish through the Foundation’s Mandell-Rosen Fund for New Music that was premiered by the Zamir Chorale at the North American Jewish Choral Festival. In April 1979, the Zamir Chorale performed Matthew Lazar’s arrangement of Marty’s composition, Sim Shalom at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, with Marty accompanying on the piano.
