Tonight we salute the men and women who mustered the
devotion and courage to teach our children, face to face.

“Moses originated the single greatest contribution

of Judaism to the concept of leadership:

the idea of the teacher as hero.  Teachers shape society,

handing on the legacy of the past to those who build the future."

                                                                         – Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks

Volunteer of the Year: Dr. Abraham Broudy

On March 13, 2020 our doors were closed, by order of Governor Newsom.  One week later, students were engaged at home in remote learning. By the time August, 2020 arrived, with the hope of starting a new year in-person and having been granted an exemption to do so, San Diego Hebrew Day was back together again.

How was this possible?

With the leadership and keen guidance from Dr. Abraham Broudy, pediatrician and Hebrew Day alum, current parent and head of our COVID Task Force, we continue to be nimble and responsive to rapidly changing conditions.

Along with Nurse Bobbe Reitman (now of Israel), Dr. Broudy met and continues to meet weekly with the COVID Task Force, guiding the school’s policies and procedures, keeping us safe and learning together.

We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to members of the Hebrew Day COVID Task Force for their perseverance and dedication: Estelle Workman, Giovanna Reinking, Naomi Shakhman, Alison Leighton and Anthony Ortiz.
We honor Dr. Broudy as our leader.
