A proud Bruriah graduate, Dr. Shira Hammerman is the Director of Faculty Learning and Professional Development at the Jewish Educational Center. 

 

In her role, Dr. Hammerman supports the growth and development of our stellar faculty and staff, enhancing their educational experiences and ability to impact each of our students.  Since 2022, she also served as the internal coordinator for the JEC’s recent Middle States Association Re-Accreditation.  Dr. Hammerman expertly shepherded the institution and its multiple constituencies through a robust self-study and planning process which culminated in the Middle States Accreditation Team strongly and enthusiastically endorsing the JEC’s re-accreditation.

 

Previously, Dr. Hammerman served as the coordinator of the Quest for Teaching Excellence at the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ’s Day School Initiative and has taught in multiple educational settings while writing and developing classroom curriculum.  She earned her Doctorate in Education and Jewish studies from New York University after earning a Masters degree in Elementary Education and dual Bachelor degrees in Political Science and Asian & Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Dr. Hammerman lives in West Orange, NJ with her husband and four children.
