President's Message
This year’s Gala celebrates Yom Yerushalayim. As the calendar would have it, we are celebrating on the actual day of Yom Yerushalayim. Following last year’s gala where we honored those from the town of Shlomit, we bring Israel front and center to our synagogue.
Yom Yerushalayim commemorates the reunification of East Jerusalem (the old city) and West Jerusalem following the 6-Day War of 1967. This year is the 58th anniversary of Yom Yersushalayim.
As part of this year’s gala, we are honoring those family members who have served, and are serving, in the IDF. It is very meaningful to us that this year’s Gala is honoring those brave souls from our shul who have served in the IDF to protect our homeland.
Ava’s father fought in the 1956 war. Ava’s cousin fought to free Jerusalem in the 6-Day War of 1967. The father of our son’s family on the kibbutz fought in the Yom Kippur War of 1973. Ava’s cousin fought in the Lebanon War of 1982. Our son fought in Gaza in the Operation Cast Lead in 2008. And, our cousins' children are now serving in the IDF as a result of October 7th.
With that, I can’t thank Karen Aron enough for all she has done, and does, to enhance our celebrations. Karen and her committee went above and beyond to make this, our 38th annual Gala, truly stunning and memorable.
