Invitation Graphic by Stuart Laiken
Drs. Stuart and Nora Laiken were among the three founding families of the Shul. They were present at the very first Shabbat service, held at the La Jolla Village Inn. Stuart served as vice president of the Shul for five years and dedicated eleven years as a member of the board.
Stuart first discovered his passion for photography after he and Nora completed graduate school in New York City and moved to Eugene, Oregon for their post-doctoral work. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, his interest in photography—particularly landscapes and cityscapes - began to flourish. Over time, that passion evolved into a love for digital art, perhaps influenced by his mother, who was herself an artist. Today, Stuart devotes much of his creative energy to digital artwork, transforming his own photographs into stunning works of art using a digital pen and tablet in place of traditional brushes and paint.
The Gala Committee could think of no better way to honor the Laikens—or to showcase a more meaningful and beautiful visual—than to feature one of Stuart’s digital masterpieces, based on a photo he captured during a visit to Jerusalem, in this year’s gala marketing materials.
With so many breathtaking pieces to choose from, we've uploaded a selection of Stuart’s artwork here for you to enjoy.
Thank you, Stuart!
